"The ideal 4x4 vehicle here is the Toyota Land Cruiser. (or Toyota Surf). The Land Cruiser currently costs about Rs. 5,000,000. which translates to about $125,000 (@Rs40=$1). This figure includes about 250 - 300% tax (approx). There are any number of Toyota support dealerships in Pakistan, with presence in nearly every city. However, the Jeep Cherokee and Range Rover is also available, but only in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.
I don't know your budget, but for a sedan, I would highly recommend the Mercedes-Benz. If you want a slightly less costly automobile, then BMW is setting up a plant in Pakistan to manufacture the 3 series. So there should be no problems on BMW parts. Japanese cars are the most popular here, with the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla being the volume leaders. Suzuki cars and jeeps are also abundantly available. Most of them are manufactured here, but jeeps like the Sidekick (known as Vitara locally) are imported.
Also, Nissan are making cars here, but not jeeps. (so the Patrol / Safari may not be available locally, you will have to import one). Going in for an American brand may NOT be such a good idea, as the after sales service is quite poor.
The tax rate on imported cars is v.v. high. But then again, you might be in a tax-exempt category. You need to find out about your tax bracket, because, that is what it will ultimately come down to ..
