For a diplomat it would be convenient to have at least a 4x4 because the roads are not all in very good condition, they are fairly good in the capital and the roads to Antigua and San Jose (Port), but Guatemala has very interesting sites where you can only go in a 4x4. Those are also the favorites of thieves, because of the ease in transportation across rural and unguarded borders."
