Insurance
Insurance regulations also vary from one country to another and you should find out
from your employer or colleagues, how to go about getting the required level of cover for
your vehicle.
- An important point to check out, particularly in countries where the local currency is
not freely convertible, is if your policy will enable you to replace your car if it is
stolen or declared a total loss. While the value of your car in local currency (at
the official exchange rate) might be fixed at "x" thousand shillings, pesos or
ougiyas; receiving that amount of local currency may not actually enable you to pay for a
replacement if you cannot convert it into hard currency at the official exchange rate.
Check with your insurance company locally to make sure that you will be adequately
covered. If you are unable to obtain full cover locally it may be necessary to make
enquiries about additional cover with a company in your home country.
- Ensure that among other risks you are covered for armed car theft.
